in life, chances run out and choices aren’t always available. but each man is given a chance to change for the better and a choice to take a turn for the worse. we are all given the chance to choose.

the old philosophy professor, known for his downright rejection of the existence of God, storms into a classroom packed with college freshmen (or “freshmeat” as he so endearingly refers to them). he stands up in the middle of the room and with one wide theatrical upward swing of his right arm, he shakes a clenched fist skyward and forcefully shouts “there is no God!!!” the room falls silent. the wrinkly man then steps forward and points to a young lad who is seated on the third row. “you!” he thunders “do you believe in God?” the young man wasn’t quick to answer but after taking a moment or two to form his reply says “i used to be sure of that sir, but after you’re passionate declaration of his non-existence, as a man or reason myself, i now question my own belief.” “good!” the professor exclaims “and while you’re at it, why don’t you answer another question for me young man… do you believe in the devil?” the lad pauses for a moment once again and then answers “i used to be uncertain of his existence sir, but based on what i’ve heard about him, he sure does sound a lot like you.”

he looked straight into her deep brown eyes and said “i can admire you for your beauty but then it will fade. i can desire you for your body but then it will waste. but is it love? no. it is not love. it will never be love. and to be truly loved is a right we all possess.” then he gently wiped the lone tear rolling down her cheek, turned around, and slowly walked away. there was no looking back.

sometimes i wonder if God ever looks at me and says to himself: “you sure are kinda stupid for a smart man.”

on the other hand, i’m just grateful he knows me more than anyone else.

including myself.
